CTC@Uki in the Tweed Valley

Uki CTC is situated in the beautiful Tweed Valley, in the foothills of Mount Warning, a region with a diverse population of arts and craft people as well as being a tourist destination.

Ltd originally opened as the Tweed Valley CTC with two “satellites” at Tyalgum and Chillingham in2002. CTC@Uki came about after a name change and a split which saw the satellites setting off under their own steam.

It is totally volunteer run with no paid staff, and it is only thanks to the tireless efforts of its Committee that the Centre is able to continue. Loyal local business folk support it by doing their printing and photocopying through it, and it is building up the publication design side of the business. Another recent innovation is to offer virtual office space for small businesses.

CTC@Uki applied in August 2005 under the Dept of State and Regional Development Towns and Villages Futures Programme for a grant to establish a Historical River walk for the Village. It was successful and has administered the first stage of this ongoing programme, with the second stage up for application in the near future.

It was also successful in gaining a Small Equipments Grant to replace a colour laser printer, and has applied for the 2008 Seniors Week Grant with a range of exciting beginner to intermediate classes.

Some of the services provided are: - secretarial services, internet access, laminating, still and video camera hire. CTC@Uki offers one-on-one training for all aspects of computing and digital photography, and other subjects if there is a volunteer who is qualified to teach them. It  also has a newly established Digital Camera Club where members exchange knowledge and ideas.

CTC@Uki is an integral part of the community as it provides cost effective services at a reasonable rate.
