Technoseniors 2010

21st to 28th March 2010

Seniors Week is always a very exciting time on the Community Technology Centres calendar, with this year the eighth year of Technoseniors.  The program has made a huge difference to the ability of thousands of rural and regional people to effectively use computers and the internet to overcome isolation. More than 800 seniors attended programs in 26 rural and regional centres in 2009, with 227 of them first-time computer users.

• Basic introductory lessons on computers
• Internet surfing and searching plus using Email 
• Staying safe online plus online banking and online purchases
• Digital photography, photo manipulation and photo albums, and online resources to publish both pictures and videos
• Mobile phones
• Family History
• Social Networking Sites such as Facebook and Twitter

1. Tuesday 23rd  Kerry Davis  10. 30 – 11.30 then morning tea in meeting room 1 Basic computer skills (taking the fear out). This class is for those with none or very little computer skills, to familiarise yourself around the computer without the worry.

 

2. Wednesday 24th  Andy Gomsi  11 -12 noon then cup of tea in meeting room 1. Using search engines and the  internet, Learning to search for information on the internet using Google. One of the challenges with the internet is trying to find  the websites that you want, when you don’t always know the name to type at the address line. That’s what search engines are for and one of these is called Google. 

3. Thursday 25th Jeannie Gillett 10.00 – 11.30 then morning tea in meeting room 1. Social networking with  Facebook. Getting started setting up a profile – finding contacts; stay connected thru the internet with children and grandchildren. This class is for those who are more familiar with the internet and who would like to sign up to a social sight and connect to friends and family.

4. Friday  25th Kerry Davis   10.00 – 11.30 then morning tea in meeting room 1.  Emailing- Setting up a free email address with Gmail / hotmail/ yahoo This is to show you how to set up an email address and send and receive emails.

2. Monday 22nd March 2010: 1 p.m.  The Bulahdelah Aged Care Group Introduction to Basic Computer Skills.  Operating System, Microsoft Office. Internet.

 

3. Tuesday 23rd March 2010:  10 a.m.  The Bulahdelah Great Lakes Nursing Home Historical Movie Morning Tea. 

 

4. Tuesday 23rd March 2010:  1 p.m.  Introduction to Facebook, MySpace, Twitter.  Finding and keeping in touch with Friends.  Exploring all of the attributes of these Applications.

 

5. Wednesday 24th March 2010:  10 a.m.  Introduction and Exploring Windows 7 and Microsoft Office 10 Beta.

 

6. Wednesday 24th March 2010:  2 pm.  Digital Photography, Download Photographs from Camera, Microsoft Digital Imaging Software How to Make a Collage.

 

7. Saturday 27th March 2010:    10 a.m.  The Bulahdelah Spinners and Weavers Craft Demonstration and Learning How To Day.   2.p.m.  Showing Use of On-line Applications suitable for Senior Craft Groups.

1. Monday March 22 - 2pm - 4pm  - Introduction to Computers - an introductory guide to using a computer.

2. Tuesday 23rd 10 am - 12 noon -  Tracing your Family History via Computing.
  
3. Wednesday 24th 2pm - 4pm - Get the Twitter about Twitter, Facebook and You Tube. Find out how to stay in touch with friends and family and make new friends in the online community of social networking.

 

4. Friday 25th 10 am - 12 noon - Mobile phones - getting the most of out the new technology.

Join in the fun at your local CTC and learn new skills ranging from an introduction to computers and the internet, to social networking and Facebook.

Games & Brain Teasers’ involving a variety of computer based and online games including jigsaws, Sudoku, varieties of Solitaire & Mahjong, crosswords, chess, backgammon & dominoes, and many other games.  Three sessions: Wednesday 24th and Friday 26th, 10 am to 12 noon, and on Thursday 25th 2pm to 4pm. 

 

Stories From My Past’ -  You will be shown how to use the internet to search for your Family/Ancestors and how to set out this information in logical order to further assist your searching. Two sessions: Tuesday 23rd and Thursday 25th, 10am to 12 noon:

 

All sessions are aimed at the very beginner, and are a great chance to test the waters, have some fun, and gain some skills along the way.  Those with more advanced computer knowledge will also be catered for.

3. Thursday 25th, 9 to 11am  - Games Galore- Find out how to access games on the internet including Sudoku, brain training and more...

 

4. Friday 26th, 9 to 11am  - Basic Photo manipulation. Cropping, resizing, red eye removal, brightness & contrast.

Face book – keeping up with the way that your children and grandchildren communicate and interact with each other and learn how to do it yourself so you can keep in touch too.

 

3. Scrap Booking (Wednesday 24th March, 10:00am to 12:00pm)
Learn how to create a scrapbook on your computer.  Use the internet to find all the appropriate patterns and styles to produce your scrapbook.

 

4. Skype (Thursday 25th March, 10:00am to 12:00pm)
If you have the internet, you can have free access to an on line communication systems to stay in touch in Australia or around the World.  Learn how to talk to friends and family via Skype.

1. Monday 22 March - Digital Photography - learn how to download photos from your digital camera and create folders to store them. Learn to manipulate your photos, remove red eye, brightness, contrast and cropping.

1. Basic Computers (Tuesday 23rd March, 10:00am to 1:00pm)
Get to know your computer and how to save files to folders and organize your computer for easy access to files and make yourself feel comfortable with your mouse.

2. Memories on TV (Wednesday 24th March, 10:00am to 1:00pm)
Get together your photos, learn how to scan or take from your camera and put on computer. Working with Photoscape to edit your photos and prepare them to put them on a DVD and put a story and music to be played on your TV, a great way to keep your memories old and new and share with family and friends.

3. Research family history (Thursday 25th March, 10:00am to 1:00pm) Learn how to navigate online and research internet: trace your ancestors and research family history, this can be an ongoing venture with our Seniors mornings every Wednesday: 10.00am to 1.00pm.

1. Thursday 25 March 10:00 – 12:00 Taste of Windows 7 & MS Office 2007 Identify the differences between older Operating Systems and Applications with the latest version available. Use software to compare the functions.

2. Thursday 25 March 13:00 – 15:00 Introduction to Social Networking.  What are the kids doing now? Create your own Facebook page, change security settings, upload photos, tag photos, find classmates/friends

3. Friday 26 March 10:00 – 12:00 Benefits of Skype and Instant Messaging for keeping in touch with children and grandchildren Introduce and watch as Skype is demonstrated. Set up Skype account, introduction to instant messaging programs

1. Wednesday 24th March 1.30pm – 3.30pm: Pictures on Your Computer with Stephen Fearnley. Learn how to save, manage your photo files, find your files and a few basic editing functions using Microsoft Picture Manager.

2. Thursday 25th March 1.30pm – 3.30pm: Social Networking with Cate Hutchinson. Find out more about the tools your grandchildren use to communicate with peers.  This workshop will have a special focus on Facebook and show you how to open an account, find other people you know who are also using it and upload photos.  It will also give you some basic security tips.

 

3. Friday 26th March 1.30pm – 3.30pm: Basic Computers with Sheila McInnes and Monica Engel. Learn how to find your way around your PC.  This is an introduction to computer use.  We will have a demonstration followed by some one on one coaching in our training room.

2. Social Networking Tuesday 23 March 2.30pm to 4.30pm
So what’s all this social networking all about? Looking at the ways Facebook and other sites can be used for keeping in touch with family and friends.

3. Using the Internet for my Hobbies Wednesday 24 March 10:00am to 12:00pm: Learn how to use the Internet to search out sewing and craft patterns, model plane and train info, in fact anything that you have as a hobby or interest, information can be found online.

4. Tell me a Story Thursday 25 March 10:00am to 12:00pm
using Windows FREE Photo Story 3 learn how to compile a story (written and spoken) using this program. Add pictures, text etc to create a memory or a story to give to the family.

1. Wed 24th  10 am to 12 noon: Introduction to Computers 

 

2. Thur 25th  10 am to 12 noon: How is Your Mobile Phone Going?  Is it Even Charged?  

 

3. Fri 26th 10 am to 12 noon:  So Many Photos, What to Do? Momento and other online publishing facilities will be our  focus. How to use these sites to put together permanent photo  books, diaries, calendars etc… of photos.
