Technoseniors 2010

21st to 28th March 2010

Seniors Week is always a very exciting time on the Community Technology Centres calendar, with this year the eighth year of Technoseniors.  The program has made a huge difference to the ability of thousands of rural and regional people to effectively use computers and the internet to overcome isolation. More than 800 seniors attended programs in 26 rural and regional centres in 2009, with 227 of them first-time computer users.
 
Community Technology Centres in 31 towns in rural NSW will be involved in the delivery of Technoseniors 2010.  They will be offering a range of short courses customised to meet the needs of their local community.  Courses offered include
  • Basic introductory lessons on computers
  • Internet surfing and searching plus using Email 
  • Staying safe online plus online banking and online purchases
  • Digital photography, photo manipulation and photo albums, and online resources to publish both pictures and videos
  • Mobile phones
  • Family History
  • Social Networking Sites such as Facebook and Twitter

1. Tuesday 23rd  Kerry Davis  10. 30 – 11.30 then morning tea in meeting room 1 Basic computer skills (taking the fear out). This class is for those with none or very little computer skills, to familiarise yourself around the computer without the worry.
 
2. Wednesday 24th  Andy Gomsi  11 -12 noon then cup of tea in meeting room 1. Using search engines and the  internet, Learning to search for information on the internet using Google. One of the challenges with the internet is trying to find  the websites that you want, when you don’t always know the name to type at the address line. That’s what search engines are for and one of these is called Google. 

3. Thursday 25th Jeannie Gillett 10.00 – 11.30 then morning tea in meeting room 1. Social networking with  Facebook. Getting started setting up a profile – finding contacts; stay connected thru the internet with children and grandchildren. This class is for those who are more familiar with the internet and who would like to sign up to a social sight and connect to friends and family.

4. Friday  25th Kerry Davis   10.00 – 11.30 then morning tea in meeting room 1.  Emailing- Setting up a free email address with Gmail / hotmail/ yahoo This is to show you how to set up an email address and send and receive emails.

All sessions are aimed at the very beginner, and are a great chance to test the waters, have some fun, and gain some skills along the way.  Those with more advanced computer knowledge will also be catered for.

Find out more about the tools your grandchildren use to communicate with peers.  This workshop will have a special focus on Facebook and show you how to open an account, find other people you know who are also using it and upload photos.  It will also give you some basic security tips.
 
3. Friday 26th March 1.30pm – 3.30pm: Basic Computers with Sheila McInnes and Monica Engel. Learn how to find your way around your PC.  This is an introduction to computer use.  We will have a demonstration followed by some one on one coaching in our training room.

using Windows FREE Photo Story 3 learn how to compile a story (written and spoken) using this program. Add pictures, text etc to create a memory or a story to give to the family.
